A Dual Gooseneck microscope illuminator has two "light arms that hold their positioning so that you can position them to provide illumination at all angles. Traditionally these illuminators used halogen bulbs, and were very bulky. Today most dual gooseneck illuminators are LED. While most higher end models still require a power supply which takes up lab space there are a few options for lower profile, but less powerful dual gooseneck illuminators.
